On my way from Old Faithful to West during the nine o'clock hour this morning, I saw five Salt Lake Express buses among many other tour buses. In addition there were many rental cars. This certainly supports the theory of all the new traffic coming from the West Hotel expansion. One of the SLC buses had parked on the road by the turnout before the Mt. Haines overlook turnout. He had released his charges to go look at / photograph a small bison herd. This bus load of people and a few others had the herd pinned against the river while they posed for photos. When I turned into the pull out, one buffalo was walking directly towards one woman who had the sense to back off, but one of her companions moved in to take a photo. No one was following the 25 yard rule. I know from countless school field trips to places like Valley Forge or Plimoth Plantation that someone from the facility would board the bus and tell the kids what they could or could not do. Does the PS do that in Yellowstone? It seems the increased traffic hurts not only the park, the experience for its visitors, but could also prove tragic for the uninformed as well. I appreciate your incites and plan to write a letter to the PS, thanks.
