Your opinion is most welcome and most valid, and you're clear on your reasons. It was Kent who pointed out that the new OF VC appears from certain angles to be much larger than the Inn. Here's a 2009 view that somewhat speaks to that issue; I'm sure the finished building looks even bigger in proportion to the Inn.
I suspect another factor is the need to be able to accommodate huge crowds in bad weather/between eruptions. And to create roomier gift shops for the Association, which after all, does bring money into park infrastructure, as you point out (although the new Canyon one isn't all that big). And the need for offices for park staff. And to be grand structures in a grand setting. You're just saying they're a little TOO lofty ;-) I totally get it and love the discussion this whole series has sparked.
