I used my YA discount this year on the atlas as well :) I always sign up on site so that I can get the stuffed animals of the year as my membership gift -- keeps the kids from bugging the heck out us the rest of the year wanting stuff.
As for the VC's, I agree the one at Canyon seems overly large, but my recollection is already fuzzy on what was there before it and if they collapsed multiple buildings into one structure (the expanded restrooms are definitely nice...). I'm actually a fan of the Old Faithful VC though. The expanded museum area is a nice touch. Even in the heart of tourist season, you can actually breathe and move around inside and not feel like you're in a stage rush at a rock concert trying to ask questions at the information desk.
I will admit though that the biggest reason I might not see it as an issue is that, to me, the Old Faithful developed area lost all semblance of "fitting in to the landscape" ages ago (I think the new Snow Lodge was the clincher for me...) so it doesn't stick out any more visually for me than the freeway-style interchange, all those employee housing units seen from the highway, etc.
