I think the great majority of funds for the OF VC came from the Foundation, not the Association. The Association was limited to outfitting the bookstore and perhaps some funds for exhibit design. The Foundation raised millions for building design and construction.
I don't remember how Canyon was financed.
Because of cost, the VC at OF is actually 40% smaller the the one originally let out for bid. The original was more attractive, but it was also much larger. Not much comfort, but some.
I am not a fan of the OFVC building and support serious spankings for all involved, but we are stuck with it for at least the next half century as are we with the Canyon "Cabelas." This will not stop me from whining on occasion.
A good photo GH, it manages to tilt what I consider to be a sows ear in the silk purse direction.
