Organized Tours?

My husband and 2 daughters (10 and 14) are planning our first trip
to YNP and GTNP in June. We currently have a reservation in
Gardiner for 4 nights and one at the Lake Lodge for the same 4
nights (trying to decide if it's worth twice the cost...). We are
also staying at Signal Mt Lodge in GTNP for 3 nights. We're pretty
adventurous (do lots of hiking in the White Mtns of NH, including
winter) and I like to plan...but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of
the options. Any advice is appreciated. I'm specifically wondering
if any of the Xanterra tours are worth doing - or can we do the
same thing on our own (without being on a crowded bus)?
