Per the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, a 21 year old male Xanterra employee fell into a hot spring Tuesday night, and was flown out for medical treatment after an evacuation eerily reminiscent of the one in 2000, when Sara Hulphers perished and two of her male companions were seriously burned.

The Chronicle says that he was part of a group of 8 at the Lower Geyser Basin "off of Fountain Flat Drive", which makes me think they were likely in or close to the area where the 2000 incident occurred. Of course, there is an abundance of thermal features out there on both sides of the river, including one on the west side that proved fatal to someone many years ago that got too close, and got full immersion when an overhang collapsed. Then, there is Ojo Caliente, even closer to the parking lot, which is plenty powerful, if you happened to be inebriated via alcohol or drugs, OR were horsing around with friends in the dark.

Over time, I expect the full story will emerge. There are so many possibilities. In the 2000 incident, the 3 victims had been walking side by side, arm in arm, in an area that almost everyone traverses single file in daylight.

As usual, the link to the specific article is too long for this page's capabilities, so I am posting a link to the newspaper's home page. You have to scroll down a ways to the bottom of the "Local News" section.

I hope this fellow survives with minimum scarring or other permanent damage.
