Granite Head,

I remember the days when we would see both genders of moose in great abundance in the willow flats between the dam and Jackson Lake Lodge, when we were making the trip from Colorado to the Snow Lodge via Flagg Ranch. That was in the 1980s and early 1990s. They are much more sparse in that area these days.

Last winter, there was a herd of a dozen or more bulls hanging out in close proximity to where the road heading north from Kelly meets the road to the Teton Science School.

Since I returned from Alaska, I have been seeing a bull herd in northeastern Yellowstone. Two winters ago, it started out with somewhere around 10 or 12 members, and gradually shrank through the winter, as they gradually moved downstream along Soda Butte Creek. Last winter, the herd was much smaller, but I did see the last 2 members of that herd charge a way stupid grizzly in early spring along the trees on the opposite side of the road in Round Prairie. The griz had been stalking them, and suddenly, they grew tired of it. I'm hearing of mixed gender moose sightings between Lower Barronette and Round Prairie recently, but I have not seen them yet.
