All these years and all these trips to Yellowstone and I'd never had the luck to get decent photos of wolves.
What you see here are eight of Yellowstone's 20-member Wapiti Lake wolf pack returning to lay bare the bull elk they killed the previous night. In spite of their top-predator status, they resent the "thieving" ravens with good reason. Collectively, ravens eat more pounds of meat than any other species in the park.

The white wolf on the far side of the carcass looking away from the camera is the alpha female of the pack. The brassy-brown wolf second from left is wearing a tracking collar.

This is a minor crop, taken from a distance such that the wolves were not disturbed by the presence of photographers. There was no indication that if they even noticed us if they cared at all. They knew full well we weren't going to come take the elk away from them.
