It wasn't long before the wolves - like this collared gray- came rushing back and made a ferocious show of chasing the coyotes, which scattered ASAP. One of the coyotes crossed the road and went somewhere up the hill toward Petrified Tree and screamed and screamed. I was sure it must have been in the jaws of a wolf, but it turned out it was just being a drama queen. Rather than waste energy hunting down a coyote, the wolves gave up the chase and went back to munching on the carcass and playing with each other.
