We always drive slowly around the Lake Butte area, and once in a great while we catch sight of a grizzly or two: "Raspberry" with a cub, or her long-since grown up daughter, "Snow" who has not yet appeared with a cub but still occupies the territory where she grew up. On this trip did see one solo grizz, could have been Snow, at near-by Mary Bay, but it was a too far for a good look or photo.

But from the top of Lake Butte, there is plenty else to look at. That whole area burned in August of 2003, and is only gradually, and patchily regenerating. Looking here at the Absaroka Range, and a LOT of old burned snags, for instance!
