The last I heard on this was during the big Canyon trail and overlook restoration project. They did an estimate to rehabilitate the trail and stairs and it was approaching a million dollars.

Evidently the entire structure is so old and has been pounded by rockfall so much that they would need to replace the whole stairway and provide some kind of overhead protection for visitors.

So the whole project got scrapped. This was from about two years ago. Has anyone heard anything more recent about reviving the project?
