I'd start off looking at car rentals through some of the big travel sites like Kayak or Orbitz. That will let you determine who has rental locations in both cities.

When it comes to actually booking, I'd book directly through the rental car company's website. I have found that the ability to monitor pricing and cancel without penalty is much easier that way.

I've rented one way and been charged a fee, and I've also rented one way and not been charged a fee. Never been able to determine why it's applied sometimes and other times it isn't.

This far in advance, I'd definitely book a reservation but check frequently to see if the rates are changing. If you have any sort of credit card, Entertainment card, AAA card -- see what discounts are available. I know I used to get coupons in with some of my credit card statements for discounts.
