Hayden and I love the Junior Ranger program. Not only is it great for the kid but also fun for the dad. We spent many evenings going over the paper together, and never really worrying if he actually finished it. We started when he was actually younger than the recommended age and moved up and above over the years. Both of us had a great time with the Junior Scientist Kit available at Old Faithful. In our case, I feel that the program went beyond the goals of the park, and created a great Yellowstone bonding opportunity. Christi, there is lots of variation in the activities and not all of them need to be completed to earn a badge, let Harrison pick and choose. You will have a great time. All the rangers that we have had over the years always gave Hayden the option of a public or private presentation of the badge. He always chose the private. He is not big on public displays, although he did give Christi and Art a quality tour of the Canyon Visitor Center a few years ago. This pic is from the archives June 2008 at the temporary OF Visitor Center.
