The trail quickly takes you across the road, then follows the creatively-named Lake Creek for the first mile and a half or so.
Although structures like the bridges are new and excellent, the trail is not paved. It slopes gently upwards through the woods, and is mostly easily walkable except for about a quarter or half mile with those annoying rounded mini-boulders that tend to twist your ankle or klonk your toes if you're not paying attention.

And you shouldn't be paying attention to the little boulders, you should be watching for bear and moose.
