Been there twice and wore myself out both times. The first time we started from Nine-Mile parking lot and, yes, there was a great deal of deadfall. Coming back we weren't with our leader and got on a wildlife trail and had to backtrack to find correct trail. I swear I walked 10 miles that day. Last year a bunch of us had two vehicles and parked one at Pelican Valley trailhead and the other where we started off from, on East Entrance Road 1 1/4 mile east of 9-Mile parking lot. Saved about a mile and a lot of elevation gain. There wasn't a trail there, but we shortly came to it and followed it to the lake. It had followed an old road for a little while. There were a lot of geese, duck, wolf, and bear footprints in the dried mud by lake. From there we headed north, crossed a small inlet stream, followed that stream, went through some woods, crossed a long meadow, and got to the Pelican Valley trail, only 1/2 mile from the broken bridge, and followed that trail to the parking lot. No deadfall on that way out, and except for the meadow we followed a good trail. I figured it was 4 miles in and 4 miles out. This first picture is where we started our hike.
