Turbid Lake from Lake Butte/9-mile

Okay gang, help me out here. I'd been wanting to do this hike for some time and
decided to make today that day.

I parked on the Lake Butte Road at the turnout a few hundred yards above the trail
crossing to spare myself the utterly pointless climb from 9-mile just to cross the Lake
Butte road. To say there's deadfall on this trail is an understatement...I shall forever be
alluding to it as the Army FItness Course from...um...Heck due to everything I crawled
over, under around and through today.

But here's the $64,000 question. My guidebook says Turbid Lake is located roughly 2.5
miles from the Lake Butte crossing. According to my GPS, I walked in a smidge over 4.1
miles. My wife frequently accuses me of being blind, but a 143-acre roiling lake is a
tad much, even for me. Soooo...did I get bad intel on the distance, or do I need to
worry that my GPS unit is on the fritz? (it FELT like an 8+ mile hike). I think I can rule
out taking a wrong turn as I was clearly on old road cut at times and the only trail I
know of cutting off between Lake Butte and Turbid is the Jones Creek trail that half the
NPS maps don't even acknowledge existing any longer, and I definitely wasn't heading
in the direction of Silverback to have been on that one.

Yes, I know I can reach Turbid from the trailhead across from Indian Lake too...being
an "old road" sort of person, I've always wanted to do it from the Lake Butte side just to
see what earlier travelers witnessed as their entrance to Yellowstone as opposed to
those miles of lake shore drive.
