Oldtymrs,

Two can play this game!

Do you remember the very first time we met? It was May of 2000, probably a day or two before the very first Loonion. We met in Gardiner, then drove into the park for some late day critter viewing. We were at Hellroaring Overlook when "somebody" locked the keys in his pickup. Luckily, we were able to summon help via cell phone. I'll never forget the response we got. Two rangers showed up, one female, one male. One took the driver's side. The other took the passenger's side, and they had a "race" to see who could break into the truck without damaging it first. I remember being amazed at how fast they got in, and thinking, "I'm sure glad they're on our side!"

You may remember my imitation of the charging grizzly mom's vocalization (huffing) that I did at John's that evening. One of our mutual Loon friends was so impressed by that performance, she had me do a reprise of it in her office, for her boss and co-workers, in midtown Manhattan in September of 2002. It was like "Yellowstone comes to Broadway", sort of.

On the subject of seeing us in Yellowstone, I want to clarify that we will be showing up, like a couple of dirty pennies, from time to time. We still have family and property in the area, plus a rawhide strong connection to Yellowstone.

It was GREAT seeing the two of you in Chugiak! I'm sure we will connect again in the Pacific Northwet.

That night in Hayden Valley was definitely special, one never to be forgotten. In the aftermath, I remember telling close friends that you were like surrogate parents to me.

Definitely great memories!

Love you guys,

Ballpark
