The building itself is a Platinum LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building, which I think in part was achievable with whatever budget they had because it is not open in the winter (in spite of that really pretty stone fireplace in the library!), so special insulation and heating and so on are not required.
According to the Web site:
"Park officials, members of the Rockefeller family and 170 guests privately commemorated the gift and the opening of the state-of-the-art, 7,500 square-foot visitor center on June 21, 2008. The Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center is the first platinum-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building to be built in the National Park System. Its green technology includes composting toilets and solar power."
