However there is a trail that the USFS was working on which goes UP from the river to the Jardine road that you can take, comes out near "Above The Rest". I hear that is a good climb out but plan accordingly and you can do the hike. Good snake country....hot and barren on the Gardiner enf of the trail.
Hellens is still for sale but you should be able to get a burger there! ~12 miles sounds right.
