Mort and Steve hung out up there for awhile and then made their way back to camp. We had a little breakfast and then packed up and hiked out. I filled up both Nalgenes when we got to water and drained them both before we got back to the van.
I'm a bit frustrated with this. I see people in worse physical condition than me doing hikes that kick my arse. I just can't seem to adjust to the altitude. I can hike all day on lower ground but as soon as I get up high, I'm whupped. Gonna carry something in addition to water next time...maybe whiskey (kidding....sort of)!
The hike to Union Falls was 16 miles - Sunlight Basin is nowhere near that distance. Union Falls has a fair amount of climbing, but overall it's a lower altitude. Why can't I get high without feeling like crud? Well, that may be a discussion for another day, eh?
