Discussion around the current state of the coyote population in Yellowstone is never-ending. The wolves have no question had an impact - they've been observed raiding coyote dens and killing pups. On the other hand, the carrion they leave is a free high-quality meal (of sorts, since the competition includes bears, ravens, magpies, and foxes until the wolves wake up and return)for coyotes. Some years we see a lot of them, some years not a lot. This year was in between by way of coyote sightings. One thing is certain: the wolves have not succeeded in wiping them out by any means.
