I happened to be in Mammoth at the very peak of elk rut. Several VERY grumpy bulls were hanging out within much less than a hundred yards of each other, and lots of challenges were happening that fascinated the many visitors driving through and making the rangers bananas trying to keep people (and the vehicles they were in) safe.
