We did a nice new little Teton hike this year, a great one for flat-landers getting used to the altitude. It starts out at the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center, which is a little south of the Moose VC along the Moose-Wilson Road. I reported on the center last year, but will take the opportunity to report on it again this year, in case you missed it.
As you can read at the link, the center is the result of yet another incredible act of generosity from the Rockefeller family, which has played such a large role in the successful history of Grand Teton NP.
The building is fascinating in a Zen sort of way. The exhibits are certainly minimalist and focus as much on the feelings, intangibles, and emotions of the visitor as on factual education. Maybe that's why I like it so much.
It includes a lovely reading room, a most inviting place to hang out when the weather is lousy, or to stop after your hike to look up that bird or bug or bush ID.
