Another collared wolf reported killed in Wyoming

Posting on Facebook (The Spotting Scope) is that the Lamar Canyon Pack's alpha female, affectionately known as "06" after the year of her birth, was killed in the Wyoming wolf hunt east of the park. "06" was much admired by wolfers because of her strong maternal instincts, skill in helping to feed her pack and her leadership abilities. "06" was reportedly shot in the same area as 754M, the Lamar Canyon Pack s beta male who was killed earlier in this year s hunt. "06" is possibly the 8th collared park wolf killed this fall by hunters. Several uncollared wolves have also been taken.

Loss of park wolves, especially collared wolves, is a serious blow to ongoing research on Yellowstone's wolf packs and is to be regretted.
